Default What is normal oil consumption

There is only a small sample of folks on this form that have experienced high oil consumption . As for the others there either isn't to many complaints or they don't check their oil and just get it changed per the maintenance schedule. That being the case it would seem that if your low oil light doesn't come on in the 10,000 mile service interval then it doesn't use oil. So that would seem to me that up to 1 quart usage in 10,000 miles would be considered "normal". My check point is at 5,000 miles and I have not moved into the 10,000 mile change being pushed by mfg's today. Because we have 4 cars for the 2 of us I change the oil once a year and never reach more then 5,000 miles on any of them. So what is the consensus here , is 1 quart per 10K normal for the A4 2.0T .

I believe in the owners book is talks about normal oil consumption, at least mine does anyway... long distance/high speed driving tend to increase oil consumption.

The OM is Audi PR (protecting them) and what I am looking for is real life experience. Every OM has a disclaimer but every car doesn't burn oil in 5,000 or 10,000 miles. So what is normal , 1 qt/10,000 or 1/2 qt per 10,000 , and so on. I tested my Lexus a few years ago and at 5,000 (0 usage ) , 7,500 (0 usage) and 10,000 also 0 usage. So my normal usage was 0.

Well I believe mine was medium to high consumption so I had Audi of Virginia Beach do that Oil consumption test. I drove it and consistently checked the oil monitor and it disappeared after approximately 1500miles. I dropped it off today to have them confirm the test but apparently it came up inconclusive which I do not understand. They are redoing the test again so I will be picking up the car this afternoon. Hopefully it won't be "inconclusive" this time.

imo, 1q/2000 miles is borderline. 1q/5000 miles is not a problem, so 2q/10k is fine.

Its a very good question.
I have 2014 A4 did an oil change at 10K
and MMI showed at that moment almost middle level.
Now I have 14K and its shows just a little below Max.
Not sure if the dealer put more oil at 10K or car burned less oil from 10K to 14K.
Thinking about to get a stick.

Once I had to send my car back because dealer dump almost double level. Hope Audi has a better and more responsible technicians.

Im going to ask them when I drop my car for 15K service.

I have heard that because the oil change takes around 4.6 or 4.8 quarts a lot of places like dealers or oil change places or mechanics and even DIY put in 5 quarts. That little extra doesn't hurt but it does alter the accuracy of the readings. You may have that case but the only way you would know is if you change the oil yourself and measure the correct amount.

FWIW, the oil consumption in my '11 increased to about 1500m/qt. I had the stg 1 fix done, which bumped it up to around 2500m/qt. It started slipping again, then I had the stg2 fix. It's been about 5500 miles since then, and I'm only down about 1/2 qt.

So I just picked up a 2014 with 17k miles on it. After only about 350 miles, I checked the level via the computer, and it's done about 1/4. Has me scared. I've never had a car use that kind of oil.

Can we purchase a normal dipstick and put it in? It looks like there a spot for one in the engine bay.

The Audi part number (for a 2.0TFSI dipstick) should be 06J115611E.
(I have another engine but this is reported in forums to fit the 2.0TFSI.)
