Canadian Dealers Scooped US Branches on the Audi RS6 Avant

For reasons that aren’t clear, Canadian Audi dealers received their RS6 allotments before American Audi locations.

Given the amount of sour grapes domestic enthusiasts have experienced when it comes to European hot hatches and wagons, it came as something of a surprise when Audi revealed it would be brining the RS6 Avant to our shores. The move immediately made Ingolstadt’s lovely longroof one of the most hottest performance cars of the year, and as The Drive reported earlier this month, one dealer even added a $100k “market adjustment” to cash in on the excitement.

But when our friends at Road & Track took a look into what was happening with RS6 availability across the country, they stumbled on an interesting trend. Namely, there were more than a few used versions of the weapons-grade wagons already available, and most had just a few miles on the clock. Now, while you might suspect these were all the handiwork of crafty car flippers, as it turns out, the answer as to why there are so many dealer-mile RS6s available lies with out Neighbors to the North.

Because for reasons that aren’t exactly clear, Canadian Audi dealers began receiving their RS6 allotments before Audi locations down here in the Lower 48, and some enterprising sales folks figured it’d be a good idea to capitalize on the demand. So instead of sitting in Canadian showrooms, they simply auctioned them off to dealers here in the States — and likely made a pretty penny doing it. Hopefully, Audi’s Canadian fans didn’t get too stiffed in the deal.

Whether or not it proved to be a good buy for dealers who scored a Canadian car remains to be seen, however, as it seems like the initial frenzy seems to have cooled a little bit. If you aren’t afraid to buy a car sight-unseen, and you’re in the market for an RS6, you’ll have no shortage of vehicles to pick from. While they obviously aren’t going for peanuts, none of the examples I saw looked to be saddled with a crazy markup.

That said, if you’ve just purchased a new — or slightly used — RS6 Avant, hit me up and let me know why the buying experience was like. Were you on a wait list, or did you just happen to luck out? Either way, the fans here on the forum would love to hear your story!
