Lava Gray R8 V10 Spyder Melts Hearts and Roads Alike
Just in time to welcome warmer days and longer daylight hours, R8 V10 Spyder boasts some 28,000 miles on the 5.2-liter V10.
What comes to mind when describing the ultimate Audi? If you’re talking about the Eighties, the ur-Quattro is the only answer. After all, it carried the name of the famed all-wheel drive system all high-performance Audis would have going forward. If you’re talking about today, though, the R8 might be the one at the top of the list.
And why wouldn’t it be? The R8 brought Audi’s endurance racing victories into our driveways, even taking the name of the company’s Le Mans Prototype to hammer the point home. And speaking of hammers, this 2011 R8 V10 Spyder is crossing the virtual block of Bring a Trailer as of this writing, just in time for the warm days ahead.
Originally purchased in Houston, the R8’s been with a handful of owners in the Carolinas, Ohio and Pennsylvania since then. The whole affair is draped in Lava Gray with a black soft top to protect the Titanium Gray interior. A few mods have found their way into the Audi, too, including a new exhaust system to really open up the power out back.
Of course, you and a friend can experience that power up front within the cozy confines of the cabin. The driver gets access to the V10 via the shifter, linked to the R8’s six-speed manual transaxle. And for those days when the top needs to be up, the Bang & Olufsen sound system provides a listening experience few can match. The miles will simply fade from view when seated here.
And the miles will tick by, for sure. The 5.2-liter V10’s logged some 28,000 miles through the quattro system since new, laying down those 525 horses and 391 lb-ft of torque upon the open road. Alas, the equally cozy confines of the R8’s engine bay mean the only good view of the V10 will be when it’s out of the car.
This R8 V10 Spyder’s ready to melt more road with its Lava Gray footprint. It’s definitely melted a few hearts along the way, with more to come.
