Watch This 2019 Audi SQ5 Transform Into a 10-Second Car in Mere Minutes
With a few mods, this 2019 Audi SQ5 shaved seconds off its quarter-mile time and transformed into a seriously fun family hauler.
While much of the focus surrounding Audi, as a brand, pertains to electrification these days, we certainly haven’t forgotten about older models wearing the same badge. In that realm, there are many performance-focused models that make fantastic projects for those that crave a bit more speed with their luxury, and we aren’t just talking about sedans, either. Rather, even modern crossovers and SUVs like the 2019 Audi SQ5 featured in this condensed build video from IgnitionTube pack plenty of potential in that regard, as is on clear display here.
In stock form, the 2019 Audi SQ5 comes equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 making a solid 349 horsepower from the jump, which is accompanied by various suspension tweaks and better braking. As a result, acceleration is solid, with 0-60 coming in the five second range and the quarter-mile flashing by in around 13 seconds, which is good but obviously not spectacular. Luckily, with the right modifications, one can make the Audi SQ5 of this generation far quicker, however.
In the case of this particular SQ5, that list includes goodies like a Pure750 hybrid turbocharger, as well as an array of parts from Integrated Manufacturing such as a Stage 3 ECU/TCU tune, a front mounted intercooler, a plastic mold intake, turbo inlet pipe, and HPFP internals. Our host also gave his crossover four bar 1.4T map sensors and new OEM RS5 injectors from FCP Euro, a CTS Turbo downpipes, and an AWE catback exhaust with resonators for good measure.
Other than those performance goodies, this Audi SQ5 is also equipped with lowering links from TGK Motorsport, as well as new rolling stock in the form of Rotiform TUF ET30 21-inch wheels wrapped with Falken FK460 UHP all-season tires measuring 265/40, but otherwise, the Porsche Chalk Gray machine is as it came from the factory.
In the end, that work certainly paid off, as our host managed to rip off a personal best quarter-mile pass of 10.92 seconds at 125 mph recently, an impressive performance, indeed. Considering the fact that the crossover sports mostly bolt-on style mods along with its larger turbo, it’s an even more impressive feat, and proof that with the right upgrades, modern Audi family haulers can make pretty competent drag racers and fun street machines, too.
