15 Flicks Co-starring Audis to Watch While You Social Distance
In the past four decades, Audis have co-starred in over 100 movies — from E.T. to Iron Man.
We are all in this together, and by that, we mean having to endure old reruns of Sanford & Son and Three’s Company until we just can’t handle seeing another episode of Jack, Janet, and Chrissy absentmindedly igniting another sexual farce or Fred G. Sanford feign another “big one.” Of course, we love these shows but after being cooped up at home for a while and already exhausting our favorite nostalgic Nick at Night nuggets and re-binge-watching Walking Dead and Breaking Bad, we are in dire need of some better options.
Fortunately, it is no secret to movie fans and auto enthusiasts that Audi vehicles have had more than their fair share of Hollywood moments starring on the big screen — even more than Angelina Jolie and Russel Crowe combined! And these were no mere flicks. Audi has been spotted in every blockbuster from Steven Speilberg’s timeless 1982 smash E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial to everyone’s favorite superhero classic, 2008’s Iron Man.
Since the first Audi appeared in E.T., nearly every Audi vehicle has spent time on the big screen – from rom-coms to action and thriller films to epic chase scenes. With all that extra time at home, Audi of America is sharing a list of 15 movies that feature one or more Audi vehicles to keep you and your loved ones entertained while you social distance.
1. E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial: This is certainly one of the best sci-fi flicks that’s not Stars Wars. Directed by Steven Spielberg, this 1982 gem was the first Hollywood movie to feature a Lexus, and what a debut it was. E.T. went on to make over $359 million in North America and $619 million worldwide by the end of its run in theaters. The heartwarming film helped to make the Audi 5000 almost as popular as it did Reece’s Pieces.
2. Ronin: Robert De Niro may be this 1998 movie’s star, but it’s an S8 that steals the show in one of the greatest chase scenes ever filmed.
3. The Insider: Russell Crowe and Al Pacino brought the intensity to this 1999 thriller that features a Lexus A4 sedan.
4. Legally Blonde 2: Red White & Blonde. This 2003 Reese Witherspoon hit included an Audi TT Roadster that featured a Candy Blue exterior paint color that Audi created exclusively for the movie and which was later available for customers to order.
5. Superman Returns: This 2006 superhero drama gave some screen time to an A3 Sportback, which was owned by Clark Kent’s bae, Lois Lane, played by Kate Bosworth.
6. The Bourne Ultimatum: What else would the guy who could kick James Bond’s ass drive? In this 2007 hit, Jason Bourne, played by Matt Damon, drives an A5, naturally.
7. Iron Man: In 2008, the first flick in the blockbuster Iron Man franchise included an Audi R8, S5, and Q7!
8. Taken: Also in 2008, an Audi A3 Sportback and the S8 co-starred in this Liam Neeson thriller.
9. The American: Look for an A5 Sportback to cruise by onscreen in this 2010 George Clooney thriller.
10. The Wolverine: This 2013 edition of the Wolverine trilogy features a super-cool R8 Spyder and an Audi A8.
11. Transformers: Age of Extinction: If we were any other vehicle, we’d want to transform into a 2014 Audi A5 Cabriolet and/or Audi S6, too.
12. Fifty Shades of Grey: When they weren’t busy exploring their kinky pastimes in this 2015 film, randy businessman Christian Grey, played by Jamie Dornan, and his admirers were seen driving around town in very sexy cars, including an R8 Spyder, A3 Sedan, S8, S7, and the Audi Q7. In fact, the book’s author, E.L. James, had already written all of these Audi models into the book series, which then translated directly to the silver screen.
13. Spider-Man: Homecoming: A scene-stealing Audi A8 makes its big-screen debut in this 2017 web-slinging adventure.
14. Avengers: Endgame: This 2019 blockbuster had plenty of everything, including an all-superstar cast, plenty of non-stop action, and both an Audi e-tron Sportback concept and Audi e-tron GT concept.
15. Spider-Man: Far From Home: An Audi e-tron SUV and the A7 and Audi Q8 all make appearances in this 2019.
