Neckarsulm, Germany – Hybrid and electric models pose challenges with respect to the handling of new technologies, even for the employees of Audi dealers worldwide. Trainers at the Service Training Centers in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm are currently preparing German dealerships and importers for the international markets to work on vehicles with high-voltage systems.

“When it comes to new technologies like hybrid and electric vehicles, it is important that we address the customers’ fear of the new in a timely and sensitive manner,” explains Bernd Hoffmann, Head of After Sales and Genuine Parts at Audi. Audi uses the training facilities to provide service centers around the world with the technical know-how they need before new products and technologies arrive in the showroom.

“We are currently preparing roughly 250 international technical trainers and product support specialists for electric mobility,” says Hoffmann. The participants qualify to work on electric and high-voltage vehicles. Applying the “train the trainer” principle, they then qualify the mechanics and mechatronics specialists at the service centers in the respective markets.

The fundamentals of the qualification program for all German automotive companies and their service centers are defined by the relevant German trade association. It was on this basis that AUDI AG drew up the Audi High-Voltage Technician qualification program for its importers and dealers.

“The goal of the Audi service training program is to ensure comprehensive service expertise in all markets,” explains Hoffmann. Audi is therefore also training sales staff in this new technology.

The Audi Service Training Center has been located at a satellite site in Heilbronn-Biberach since 2009. Participants receive both theoretical and practical instruction at the 5,400 square meter (58,000 sq ft) facility. Audi offers a total of 80 training modules in 14 qualification programs at its training sites.
