Audi Q6 Pickup: Digital Artist Takes a Ford Ranger and Transforms It into an Audi Pickup Concept

Audi Q6 pickup

We know that Audi is considering offering a pickup truck. Could this Audi Q6 mockup be close to the actual design?

The Audi portfolio of products is extensive. If you want a sportscar then Audi has you covered. If you want a sedan or a coupe, then Audi again has options for you. There are several Audi SUVs to choose from and a growing number of all-electric vehicles. However, there is something missing and that is a traditional pickup truck. But that gap in the lineup may be addressed soon. Autocar reported earlier this year that Audi CEO Markus Duesmann confirmed the brand is considering its own truck. Could we see an Audi Q6 pickup truck in the near future? And what would it look like? It may seem surprising that Audi would enter the pickup segment but when the CEO of the company confirms it is being considered then it is more than just a wild rumor.

Duesmann, who, when asked if an Audi pickup was a possibility, said: “I can’t promise that we will do one, but we are looking into it.” He did not offer specific details, but he went on to say: “Actually, we will present – not too far from now – maybe something.” We have yet to see a formal concept from Audi, but a talented digital artist recently did a mockup of what the Audi Q6 pickup could look like and posted on the Theottle YouTube channel. The artist used a current Ford Ranger as the base for the new Audi pickup truck. The midsize Ford truck was chosen for good reason.

Strange Bedfellows

It may seem bizarre that a Ford Ranger would have anything to do with a premium Audi pickup truck such as a potential Q6 model. But the automotive industry can make for some strange bedfellows. Ford and VW formed an alliance to create the VW Amarok and Ford Ranger. Exterior styling differs between the two, but they share just about everything beneath the skin. Audi of course, is under the VW umbrella so starting with a Ford Ranger base makes perfect sense when mocking up a potential Audi pickup truck. The ‘Audi-ness’ of the styling is based off the Audi Q6 SUV sold in China. So, take the Ranger base structure and combine it with the Q6 SUV Audi design and presto you have an Audi Q6 pickup concept.

Market Position

Would the world want a premium pickup truck from Audi? Well, long gone are the days that a pickup truck was purchased only by farmers to use in the fields. Many folks now buy them as regular family haulers. And they are getting more and more luxurious (and expensive) each year. And considering the focus Audi has on electrification it is most likely that any Audi pickup will be launched as an EV. Look at the demand right now for trucks like the Ford Lightning, Rivian R1T, and Hummer EV Pickup. It is no wonder that Audi would want to get in on some of that action.

Your Thoughts

Would YOU want a midsize premium SUV from Audi? If so, would you be happy if it turned out looking something like the mockups we see here? Obviously, it is impossible to make a final decision on if you would buy this truck since we literally know nothing about it and can only speculate at this point. But conceptually would you be open to Audi finally jumping into the pickup truck market with a Q6? Let us know your thoughts in the Audi World forums.
