Custom build turns the Audi luxury ride into a high-performance SUV backed by some serious ponies.

Lumma Design in Germany has been tuning and turning out some impressive custom-built Audis. Their latest build is a take on the 2020 Audi RS Q8. Named the CLR 8 RS, this is definitely a tougher SUV. Modifications give the RS Q8 a sporty and purposeful look, and no lack of performance-oriented refinements.

Compared to the stock RS Q8, the CLR 8 RS has a lot of nice exterior upgrades that work organically with the existing design. But don’t be fooled–this isn’t just a makeover. Under the hood, the twin-turbo V8 gets a major boost turning out a 705 hp.

Lumma added custom built front and rear spoiler lips, wheel arch extensions, door panels, rear diffuser, rear roof spoiler, and various applications for rear lights and side panels from ultra-light and high strength carbon fiber.

This is a detailed, purposeful build. This wasn’t built to just look pretty, it can drive hard. High-performance tires and light alloy custom painted wheels utilize a multi-spoke design that elevates drive ability and quality, load distribution, and brake system ventilation.

When it comes to the 4.0L twin-turbo V8, you’re already looking a solid drivetrain. Lumma kicks that up a notch by employing a performance enhancing 4-pipe sports exhaust system, the engine output gets bumped from 591 hp to 705 hp. Resulting in more power, and an especially delicious exhaust note. Additionally, torque has been increased from 592 to to 672 lb-ft.

The CLR 8 RS also includes a number of personalization options. Inside options range from leather, fine wood, piano lacquer, and carbon fiber. Even personalized floor mats, if you like.

What we like is how Lumma took a decidedly muscular approach to the crossover. Obviously, Audi is noted for its luxury and elegance. But, often we find modded Audis can seem clunky and disjointed. We’re going to need more than adding a hood intake to transform a Q8 into a asphalt rattling vehicle.

But Lumma has avoided the Audi identity crisis with the CLR 8 RS. This is definitely an Audi, just cranked up a little more. Overall, it hits the mark for us. It looks sleek and cool. The work is beautifully executed focused on maximum performance. And Lumma enhances Audi style without distracting from it.
