Audi RS4 Avant Edition 25 Years Bids Farewell the Proper Way
As it prepares to make way for the RS5 Avant, the new Audi RS4 Avant Edition 25 Years takes a look back to where it all started.
It’s been a full quarter-century since the Audi RS4 originally debuted, which is obviously a notable occasion worth celebrating. That’s precisely why the brand has created this – the all-new Audi RS4 Avant Edition 25 Years, a special, limited-edition variant that has some enticing upgrades. However, the Audi RS4 Avant Edition 25 Years isn’t just a celebration of that particular model, but rather, also a way to say goodbye, as the RS4 is set to be replaced by the all-new RS5 Avant – though it’s clearly going out with a bang.
Finished in Imola Yellow – a nod to the original model – the Audi RS4 Avant Edition 25 Years can also be had in Nardo Gray or Mythos Black, but regardless of color choice, features a roof rail delete up top, gloss black trim, engraved lettering on the rear side windows, and the Carbon Matte Appearance Package, which adds some nifty carbon fiber touches. It rolls on a set of 20-inch forged wheels, which wear Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, but interestingly, the special edition also comes with a second set of 20-inch matte black wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS for track use.
Inside the cabin, one will find unique touches such as yellow accent stitching, badging, a numbered plate, RS bucket seats with carbon backs, a new digital instrument cluster skin with white analog dials just like the original RS4, and a combination of fine materials such as leather, Dinamica, and Alcantara.
In terms of power, the Audi RS4 Avant Edition 25 Years gets a new tune for its twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 that gives it a bit of a boost over the standard model – resulting in an output of 464 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. Coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a revised Torsen differential, that’s good for 0-62 acceleration of 3.7 seconds – four tenths quicker than the regular model – and a top speed of 186 mph.
Underneath, Audi tweaked the suspension of the anniversary model by adding manually adjustable coilovers that lower the car by anywhere from 0.4-0.8 inches, increased negative camber up front, beefed up the rear subframe, and added stiffer control arms. Production is limited to a mere 250 units, however, but the Audi RS4 Avant Edition 25 Years will also be joined by the Audi RS5 Sportback Performance Edition in the lineup, which features the same sort of upgrades and the same limited production run. Both are slated to launch this month, with the anniversary RS4 priced at €142,905 ($155,437), while the limited-edition RS5 costs €128,420 ($139,682).
