Audi S4 Tops List of Cars Involved in Most Accidents for 2023

A large percentage of Audi S4 owners apparently can’t help but crash their high-performance sedans, it seems.

The Audi S4 debuted way back in 1991 as a high-performance version of the 100, but soon evolved into a fortified A4 and hasn’t looked back since. The S4 follows the typical automotive formula in that regard, too – it has more power, a firmer suspension, better brakes, and a distinctive look compared to its more pedestrian brethren, and as such, as become incredibly popular among enthusiasts. Unfortunately, however, it seems as if a lot of Audi S4 owners also tend to crash their cars, according to a new report from Insurify Insurance.

The Audi S4 tops this list of the most accident prone models, which Insurify determined after examining 4.6 million car insurance applications. It achieved this “honor” thanks to the fact that the percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on their record accounted for 11.7 percent of the total number of applications, “beating out” a rather eclectic list that includes the Scion iA, Chevy Volt, Hyundai Veloster N, Toyota GR86, Subaru WRX, Subaru XV Crosstrek, Chevrolet Silverado, Kia Niro, and Subaru Impreza.

All of these vehicles ranked far higher than the overall average of 7.6 percent of drivers with a prior at-fault accident, which is no surprise for sporty models like the Audi S4 and some of the others, though we’re not entirely sure why so many Scion and Volt owners are crashing their cars. Regardless, S4 owners get into accidents at a rate that’s 54 percent higher than the national average, no doubt spurred on by the car’s 349 horsepower output that simply entices owners to drive in a more spirited manner.

On the bright side, the S4 is at least a safe vehicle to be in if you are involved in an accident, one that has earned a rating of “good” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It comes equipped with features such as forward-collision detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning, though in all fairness, those things don’t seem to prevent many owners from crashing their cars.
