Audi Sales Dip In Q1 2024, but EV Sales Surge by 29 Percent

After ending 2023 on a high note, Audi sales in the U.S. slipped somewhat in the first quarter of the year, but it isn’t all bad news.

Though Volkswagen Group, as a whole, has experienced its fair share of financial issues as of late, that hasn’t necessarily been the case with Audi. In fact, Audi sales in the U.S. in particular, remain strong for the most part. While total Audi sales across the globe rose 17 percent in 2023 – reaching 1.9 million units, it enjoyed even better success in the U.S., in fact.

There, Audi sales improved by an even larger margin – by 22 percent – reaching 228,550 units – making America one of the brand’s better-performing markets in terms of both total sales and year-over-year performance. That success didn’t completely continue in Q1 2024, however – Audi sales declined by 16 percent overall to 44,226 units – though there are quite a few positive takeaways from these recently-reported financial results.

Audi News

Sedans/Coupes

First up, we have Audi’s passenger cars, which posted a bit of mixed results in the first quarter of the year. The A4, for example, suffered a rather large 53 percent drop in sales year-over-year, while the A5 and A7 were also down double digits. On the flip side, the A6 and A8 both enjoyed a sales increase, and the outgoing R8 surged by an impressive 87 percent.

  • A3 – 3,712 vs 4,068 (-8%)
  • A4 – 2,452 vs 5,239 (-53%)
  • A5 – 4,796 vs 5,598 (-14%)
  • A6 – 2,020 vs 1,985 (+2%)
  • A7 – 488 vs 544 (-10%)
  • A8 – 428 vs 389 (+10%)
  • TT – 35 vs 183 (-81%)
  • R8 – 181 vs 97 (+87%)

SUVs

The same can be said of Audi’s SUV lineup, as almost every model suffered a dip in sales to kick off the year – all declining by more than 30 percent, in fact, save for the Q3. The smallest model in this particular lineup surged by 80 percent, in fact, nearly doubling its result versus Q1 of 2023.

  • Q3 – 6,926 vs 3,855 (+80%)
  • Q5 – 11,473 vs 17,085 (-33%)
  • Q7 – 4,205 vs 6,421 (-35%)
  • Q8 – 1,796 vs 2,861 (-37%)

EVs

Finally, we have the biggest bright spot of all – Audi’s EV sales, which were collectively up by 29 percent versus Q1 2023. The Q4 Sportback e-tron and Q8 e-tron led the way by posting increases of more than 50 percent, though every single model here enjoyed a double-digit rise, save for the e-tron GT, which grew by seven percent. All of this is obviously good news as the brand recently reiterated its commitment to electrification, in general.

  • e-tron GT – 776 vs 726 (+7%)
  • Q4 e-tron – 1,905 vs 1,674 (+14%)
  • Q4 Sportback e-tron – 773 vs 503 – (+54%)
  • Q8 e-tron – 1,614 vs 1,053 (+53%)
  • Q8 Sportback e-tron – 646 vs 482 (+34%)
