Delightful Depreciation: e-tron Deals for Used Buyers Are Crazy Good

With certified pre-owned models as much as $50,000 off MSRP, now might be a great time for prospective e-tron buyers to pounce.

We recently talked about the monumental decline in the value of Audi e-tron models. While it’s not painting a great picture for the folks who bought them brand new, depreciation has always been a double-edged sword of sorts. For those interested in finding themselves in a newer model Audi, the stark depreciation may just be a gift from the four-ring gods. It is especially pertinent to those who are interested in e-tron models. Those are, of course, Audi’s electric lineup of vehicles.

A look at the Audi certified pre-owned website is a perfect example of this phenomenon. Audi’s CPO program offers some pretty interesting perks. For one, it extends your warranty for an extra year or 20,000 miles over the remaining standard new-car warranty. Furthermore, it includes a year of 24-hour roadside service. Of course, these perks sit atop an Audi expert technician’s full inspection and a full report on the vehicle’s history. Finally, Audi will cover the first payment on model year 2019 and new CPO vehicles for well-qualified buyers.

e-tron SUV Options Offer Killer Deals

Among the e-tron deals, there are some truly reasonable prices in the Audi CPO inventory. There are a handful of CPO Q8 e-tron models, which came as a bit of a surprise considering the 2024 model year is the first year of availability for the Q8 e-tron. There’s even a Q8 e-tron 55 Quattro Premium on the CPO website that has under 100 miles on the odometer. The old adage goes that your vehicle drops value the moment you drive it off the lot. Considering this particular Q8 e-tron’s asking price of $69,986, that seems to ring true. Though it’s “only” around $4,400 off MSRP, it’s effectively still a brand-new car with an extended warranty to boot. Lots of folks pay extra for a warranty extension, so why not go the opposite way just because someone else drove it briefly?

Sorting by the lowest price lands you on a 2019 Audi e-tron Premium Plus with an asking price of $29,991. This one is fairly transparent in its reasoning, as it falls outside of the 4-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty. That being said, it’s worth remembering that the CPO warranty is still in effect and that Audi provides an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty on the battery pack on this vehicle. Meaning, the battery warranty continues for roughly another three years or 75,000 miles.

Finally, a host of Q4 e-tron options line the search results with pricing north of $20,000 off MSRP. One outstanding example is a 2023 Q4 e-tron Premium Plus model with only 4,300 miles sitting nearly $20,000 under MSRP.

Biggest Bang for Your Buck

2022 Audi E-tron GT

As was outlined in our above-linked article, the e-tron GT is the king of electric Audi depreciation at the moment.  The data shows that a fair auction wholesale price for e-tron GT models is over 50 percent off the original MSRP. As you might expect, Audi’s internal CPO prices don’t get that cheap. They do, however, still offer shocking deals across the lineup of e-tron GT models.

A phenomenal example is a 2023 Prestige model with an asking price of $83,450. It only has 790 miles on the odometer, so it’s about as close to brand-new as you can get in a used car. It also features the full-leather interior package, performance package, and 21-inch wheel package. Building that very same car in the Audi model builder lands you at $127,190. That is nearly $44,000 off MSRP with all the CPO perks and nearly the entire factory warranty remaining. This is a 469 horsepower performance sedan that hits 60 mph in under four seconds. From our perspective, this is an unbelievable deal.

Only time will tell if these models continue to depreciate like lead balloons. One thing is for sure, though. If you’re in the market for an e-tron model, you should definitely (in our humble opinion) be shopping pre-owned. The savings are just too astronomical to ignore.
