The second generation Audi 100 followed in 1976 with the 200. 1977 was a banner year as the company reached the milestone of selling one million Audi 100/200 cars. In 1978, Audi renamed it the 5000 for the U.S. market and offered it with an inline five-cylinder. An S trim package was available for the 5000, which could be ordered with a 130-hp turbocharged version of the five-cylinder engine. Both the trim package and more powerful engine helped the 5000 average over 25K sales a year.
