Before the floor fell out from the TDI engine family due to the effects of dieselgate, Volkswagen and Audi were strongly committed to diesel power, and pulled out all the stops to boost the sales of diesel powerplants in the corporate lineup. Perhaps the wildest of the bunch was the 6.0 liter V12 TDI which saw duty in the Audi Q7. The twelve-cylinder was the figurative step up over the TDI V10 in its VW badged cousin the Touareg, and the monstrous oil burner packed the muscle to further emphasize this point, with the engine making 500 horsepower, and an utterly absurd 737 lb-ft of torque. That was enough to help the Q7 squirt to 62 mph in 5.5 seconds, and hit a top speed of 155 mph. Unfortunately, low sales numbers and demand kept it limited to European customers, and the model and its wild engine were quietly axed after only a few years in service.
