Top 5 Audi Cars Of The Future

VW Iltis

I know, it’s not an Audi. But without the VW Iltis, we wouldn’t have Audi’s Quattro All-Wheel Drive. Back in 1977, Jorg Bensinger, Audi’s chassis engineer, discovered the Volkswagen Iltis outperformed other vehicles in the snow. He proposed modifying its all-wheel-drive system for use in an Audi 80, and the Quattro was born.

That original Audi 80 led to the ur Quattro, which was a game-changer not just for Audi but how we view “four-wheel drive.” Before the ur Quattro, most people thought of four-wheel drive as something for trucks, Jeeps, and military vehicles. The ur Quattro changed that. It dominated Pikes Peak and rally racing and embarrassed any number of sports cars around a short track. Car & Driver called the Quattro “one of the best all-around cars ever” because on any road, in any weather, it could get the best of anything on four wheels.
