3. NSU/Volkswagen K70

NSU K70

The Volkswagen K70 originated as an NSU product. More conventional than the Ro 80, it’s a four-cylinder, front-wheel drive sedan. But what makes it noteworthy is that it was the first water-cooled vehicle sold by VW.

VW sold the K70 in Europe from 1970 to 1975. It was well received because of its spacious interior and comfortable ride, and good performance. More importantly, it led the company’s transition from air-cooled Beetles to cars like the Golf and Passat.
