Tuned Audi R8 Smokes Tuned C8 Corvette: Video

The twin-turbo Audi R8 V10 doesn’t get a ton of screen time, but it makes short work of the latest Corvette.

The tuning world is just starting to tap the potential of the C8 Corvette, and at least for right now, YouTuber Emilia Hartford has the most powerful version of America’s Sports Car on the road. With 1000 horsepower on tap, it’s more than twice as powerful as a stock example, but even with all the extra poke, she wasn’t able to reel in the twin-turbo R8 V10 owned by fellow channel star WhistlinDiesel.

Before they do the pull on the highway, Hartford mentions that while the Audi is able to make up to 1,400 horsepower, but is currently running a more conservative tune, which caps output at around 1,100 ponies. When the two drop the hammers however, the difference looks like a lot more than 100 horsepower, because the Audi pulls away effortlessly every time. Sure, the air filters might blow off in the process, but a win’s a win.

The big question I’m left with after watching this video is how long the gearbox of the Corvette is actually going to last. The car hasn’t been fine tuned yet, and in some parts of the clip, the transmission is making some nasty sounds. For the record, they’re the kind of sounds which would send me right back to the shop — but my pockets aren’t overflowing with YouTube ad revenue.

I know it’s a polarizing choice, but I happen to love when force-fed R8s and Lamborghinis run without the rear bumper. Sure, you’re going to broadcast the performance potential of your car loud and clear. But given that an R8, Gallardo or Huracan aren’t really ever going to qualify as sleepers, I don’t see that as an issue. And seriously, how gorgeous does all the turbo plumbing look? It’s barely safe for work!

Now, I hadn’t been too familiar with WhistlinDiesel until I saw this video, and it’s safe to say his projects don’t seem to have the best prospects for longevity. Basically, that’s another way to say he tends to destroy things, and his fans eat it up. That’s not really my scene, even if I did chuckle when he put wheels from a horse-drawn buggy on a Hellcat.

So hopefully this wicked R8 doesn’t wind up completely binned. Having driven a stock version of the Audi supercar, I can attest that it’s an absolute beast. Activating launch control made me feel like I was being shot of a cannon, so I can’t even imagine what it’s like with almost three times the horsepower. It has to be insane.
