a4 1.8T oil pick up tube question
So my oil light recently came on, on my 01 1.8T a4 quattro. Did some research and decided to drop the oil pan and replace the pick-up tube. After dropping the oil pan, I went to unbolt the pick-up tube. Looking at it and I noticed that where the oil tube mates with the oil pump, there was roughly a 1/4'' gap on one side. Almost like over time it wriggled itself loose or maybe a previous owner installed it incorrectly? This being my first major repair on this car, I wanted to make sure that this in fact was incorrect before I start reassembling the car! Any input/thoughts/advice are all welcome and much appreciated!

That's what I figured, new pick up tube and o-ring will be here tomorrow. Hoping this will fix the low oil pressure. Old tube had lots of crud, mainly gasket sealer not much sludge. Perhaps it was sucking in air from the gap between the tube and pump. Thanks for the reply!

Was actually considering pulling the engine this spring and completely rebuilding it. It has 170k miles on it now, but it runs and drives like it has 50k. Had some pretty bad oil leaks around the cam chain tensioner and valve cover gasket when I baught it two years ago, aside from that it's been a really amazing car and it'd be worth it to me for an engine overhaul.
