Default ABS and Emergency Brake Light on

2000 Audi a4, 100k miles, just bought. Brakes were inspected and fine. Garage claims there are No Codes showing up, but the ABS light is on and the emergency brake light flashes. It's quite annoying and i have read up on this subject finding that it is common. ANY IDEAS ?? what to do, or what could be the cause? Should i ignore it? I haven't tested the brakes to see if the ABS will engage or not yet. Also the engine temp gauge sometimes doesn't seem to be registering correctly.

If you've read up, then you know what to do. Don't bother testing; your ABS won't work.
