Does anyone know what these engine fault codes mean (Camshaft A intake and Engine Speed Sensor)?

replace the unit. They don't often go bad, but there are enough people who have had to change them out. The ECU will not let the car run unles it gets information from this sensor.
Depending on the year of your car, here are the part numbers:
06A906433C (99.5 to 2001)
OR
06A906433L (Newer 1.8T's, 2002-date)
you can see the speed sensor cord if you look through the open spaces of the intake manifold. Confirm your part number, order, then get wrenching.
Good luck.

2002 A4 1.8TQM with 50k miles on it (76000 kms).
Car suddenly died on me after about 35 minutes of driving. Got off the highway, came up to a light, stopped... and it stalled. Took 2-3 tries for it to turn back on... I was freaking out thinking it was my timing belt for a few terrifying moments.
Anyhow, scanned the car, got these codes. I was inclined to change my engine speed sensor, but the vag is still reading RPM... does that mean my ESS is okay? EPC light is on... and while monitoring RPM in vag-com measuring blocks, I noticed that the car will not rev past 4k... and idles high at about 1100-1200 rpm.
When driving the car... it seems to run fine unless of course I get near 4k rpm (and other than the time it stalled).
This still sound like ESS?
