Now I am new to the compact car scene I have owned an older 87 442 so I know more about american muscle then german power. I have found a '00 Audi A4 1.8t with 60k miles on it for 10k. I have 4k to spend on the upgrades on it. This car will be a daily driver as well. I have read through the forums for the past 2 weeks on different turbo setups and chip upgrades and such. My goal is around 300 WHP. I have read about how some people will not use the ATP eliminator kits, any real reason why. What does the APR kit differ from them, since I believe they both use the GT28rs turbo. I have also heard about the K04 but I dont think that will give me enough power. If I were to go with an Eliminator kit or if the money is right the APR kit do I then have to spend the money for exhaust, ECU, and obviously the Clutch. Does it make sense to later on upgrade the intercooler. Thanks for everyones help. Also wondering if people would be interested in posting their Setups and how much they cost and what kind of power they are getting out of them.

APR charges big $$$ for their software, but can only get it if you buy their hardware
Anyone can buy hardware and install it
Software makes it go
Kits to look at: AWE KO4, Dahlbach, APR, PES-tuning, MTM, Neuspeed

it runs out of steam up top compared to the bigger ball bearing turbos. To make 300 at the wheels you'll need bigger than a GT28RS. An RS can do it on race fuel, but not pump gas from what I've seen. Like you said you'll need exhaust and clutch to go with whatever kit you choose. A front mount intercooler is really necessary for a complete solution. If you go ATP eliminator, you have $500 clutch, $1600 for turbo kit, $800 software/fuel, $1000 for FMIC, $1000 for exhaust and you have close to $5000 and that's the cheap way to go. You still have the OEM cat and inlet pluming which isn't all that great.

how is the Stage 3 kit? From what I have been reading I am thinking about going with ATP's stage 2 kit, and then later on upgrading. Also from what I have been reading even though a FMIC would be great to have and I do plan to get one, its just it isent truly needed until high boost is used right? Not to worried about the exhaust part of it, since I know sombody who ownes an exhaust shop and will get me the parts. when you say 800 for software I thought APR's is around 650, I guess that could include shipping and tax I guess. I would also want to get a short shifter. What about stuff like injectors. I am just thinking about what I REALLY need, I guess to start off I dont really need 300 right away. I just want to stay ahead of the competition. Is this the right way to go? Should I start with a stage 2 and then upgrade later on or just save all of that money and upgrade right to a stage 3?

now I have been reading around on the K05, but so far I have seen it be able to fit golf, jetta, and beetles. Does it fit say a 2000 A4? if I did go with that and injectors how much hp do you think I would see, and would it just bolt on?

$800 buys you the software and injectors from ATP. The best thing to do is call up the tuner you want to work with and hear what they have to say about the upgrade path.

what I've heard is that their DBW software is lacking, which affects you since you're looking at a 2000.
I bought a 99.5 so that I wouldn't have to worry about the DBW stuff, but still have the 2000-2001 look (wheels aside).
You could do a 034EFI and switch to nDBW, but that's pretty involved.
As far as the IC is concerned, most BT kits recommend the FMIC for a few extra HP, and to save the turbo from temps that are too high (from what I understand).
I'm stock, so I can only speak from what I've researched.
Good luck! (I also am an American Muscle guy now driving an Audi)

Simple: APR kits costs more, but may be a little "prettier".
I'd go with APT. More power, plus you have the option of going with the 1/2 price "hardware only" kit, and go with different fueling mods depending on what you need.
Eliminator kits are for the B6 ('02 and up 1.8t).
350whp is easily reached on these older (1997-2001) engines.
