importance of knowing the oil temp?
just wondering in the big schema of things... how important is it to know the exact temp of the oil and being able to recall what was the highest temp on a given drive?

Two uses: First to limit engine power until the oil is warmed up to > ~80 C,.....
And to monitor maximum temp to limit power if oil temp reaches or exceeds a maximum of ~150 C. Values given are examples, actual temp limits depend on the lube oil in use.
