The other day I was driving my car and it started overheating outta nowhere. When I pulled over the temperature cooled back down. This happened to me twice on my way back home from work. I though it was my thermostat, but my heater is still blowing warm air. I had my water pump replaced about 30k miles ago because it failed ( I replaced it with one that has a metal impeller) any advice would help me. It's an 05 b6 with 66k miles. Thanks

Same symptoms - car never overheated, just gauge went up to overheat point then returned to normal seconds later. Have you checked your anti-freeze level? I had a cracked head and was losing anti-freeze.

just because the heater works doesnt mean its the thermostat. If the stat is sticking closed its going to overheat. Coolant flows through the heatercore ALWAYS regarless if the thermostat is open or closed. definatly sounds like a bad thermostat to me.
