i checked the car with amechanic and its the wheel bearing, it gets louder on turns, any guess what else it could be??

If the bearing is bad, it will make more noise as the outside wheel in a turn. Pretty distinct problem, nothing else I can think of really.

the wheel was hit into curb on a icy road, but the mechanic says never heard a wheel bearing to be dameged by an impact!

must not be much of a mechanic if he said that...

The impact will put flat spots in the rollers or ***** (not sure what they are) and put divots in the bearing race, albeit very small features. Since it is not around the entire bearing, you get the cyclic sound.
