Default 12v.org - who wants it?

Hello all,

No doubt some of you are familiar with my web site, <a href="http://www.12v.org">12v.org</a>. It started nearly 10 years ago (I registered the domain on 23 December, 1998; for the trivia nerd, the site lived before that for some time as eep.burdell.org/12v) as an excuse for me to have a web server, and grew into something fun and (I hope) helpful to other 12v owners. I shamelessly swiped the idea of calling it 12v.org from another useful site, 20v.org, and I meant to have a more generalized and technically useful site than some of the flashier sites like JET's A4 pages (pah! Whatever became of <i>that</i> site? Oh ...).

Recently I decided that in honor of 12v.org's upcoming 10th birthday, I was going to totally rewrite the site (<a href="http://dev.12v.org/">dev.12v.org</a>, not at all complete) and add a mobile-accessible version (<a href="http://m.12v.org/">m.12v.org</a>, also not at all complete). Instead I realized that with my new job I just don't have the time anymore, I don't have access to any 12v cars anymore, and my knowledge of the cars is getting very rusty. The charm of hosting a server has also worn off completely; everything about it has become a chore that I dread.

So it's time to turn it off. Rather than just yanking the plug out of the wall, which was surprisingly tempting, I wanted to give the community a chance to take my dusty pile of PHP and keep it going, or maybe make some of the improvements that so many have suggested over the last several years.

Part of my goal with 12v.org has always been to have a clean, intuitive, quick-loading site that works on everyone's browser and isn't covered in flashy advertising. I haven't achieved all of those goals, but I've always thought of them as being important, and I'd like to hand the site over to someone who shares this view, at least to some extent. I'm also looking for someone who is intimately familiar with the cars and the engine and really understands what's on the site.

On to the specifics: the site is all written in PHP, and makes unnecessarily heavy use of MySQL. On a busy month, it receives 4,500+ visitors (&gt;170,000 hits) and a bit over 1GB of traffic goes out. Don't look forward to making money on the site; I average $10/year in PayPal donations, and the google ads bring in less than $10/month (usually $5 or $6) so plan on supporting it yourself.

So who's interested? Send me an e-mail (12v@imp-detail.org) by the 17th (this coming Friday). I'll put them all in a pile and decide who's the lucky clod next weekend. If you have a username here (I'll assume you do), please include that in your e-mail so I can snoop around your posts and see if you look like you know what you're talking about

I'm only posting this to the 12v development forum because I don't want to spend all night crossposting, and the crowd here generally seems to be the most familiar with 12v cars. If anyone thinks that people in other forums would be interested, feel free to link to this post.<ul><li><a href="http://www.12v.org/">http://www.12v.org/</a</li></ul>

i like your site, it became useful several number of times, i think that is how i got here... THANK YOU!
i would love to take it, except im at work 12 hours a day and don't have much of free time. also i used to do web design but that was about 4 or 5 years ago (and in HTML) and i have not done anything since then...
if worst comes to worst, i will take it but i would rather have someone else supporting it with more free time, knowledge and resources.
Thank You for all your work!
Yuriy

Default I'm willing to do that.

I'm more than qualified as far as programming/web design goes and i'm quite familiar with the 12v. I will transfer the site to my host and we can update the DNS. For now, I don't have time to complete/update it, but I'm happy to host the site and keep it up as a resource for the community. I will email you this week once I'm off my mobile.

Default whoever takes it, I am willing to scan pages of the service manual in...

(i have a manual just for that engine) and it would be nice to make available for everyone as long as your not worried about the copywrite...

Quick way to get 12v.org sued by Audi and killed forever.
