1996 Audi A4 2.8 runs great but sometimes kills or turns off while in idle completely randomly
Hi guys.. I just bought a manual Audi A4 2.8 quartto. Everything worls great but the car has one issue. Once in a while (meaning like once a week or so), while the car is in neutral with the clutch all the way up, and break pressed in, the car kills. This only happens once in a while, but its quite annoying. If i can get any help with this that be great. If someone knowns how to fix this problem, or at least how much i am looking at to fix it, that would be most appreciated.
Also the car came with stock 16' im lookin to get 18 but am wondering if inorder for the car to look nice i need to lower it> Any peoples experienced with this>>>

OK some people suggested the ICV idle control valve shud be replaced. Is there any other things that i shud check? I am new to these audis but so far they kick ***! Any hlp is much appreciated. Thanks!

Try cleaning your ICV (Idle control valve)...
If that doesnt fix your problems, it could be a number of things...Can you hear a miss that is causing the engine to die? If so, try changing the spark plugs and/or wires...or at least make sure they are all plugged in securly.

In most cases, it wont need to be replaced, just cleaned...
You can measure the resistance across the two terminals on the top of the ICV to tell if it's bad or not.. I forget the exact range of values considered, but you can find it in the tech articles...You'll also need a multimeter, which you can find cheap at any hardware store

If it's the black valeo ICV you can remove the cap on the base..
.. carefully pry it off. That gives you more access to the valve "piston". I did this after cleaning my valve several times the normal way and having the problem return after a couple of weeks.Removing the cap dislodged a whole lot more crud and the idle on my A4 is back to normal for the last 20K miles. You can reglue the cap on pretty easy just make sure you get a good seal.
