Default IS 300--not as fast as advertised . . .

3255 lbs and 215 hp stock. I easily took one from a standing start 0 to about 55 or 60. He could not overtake me until I lifted for the next light. I must admit: I really love my 12v--7.5 year old cars with smaller engines, non-variable SOHC, and 161,000 miles normally do not spank shiny new high-tech sport sedans.

Default Well...I had some fun run with oe of those at about 125mph...

I was on my way to Michigan and the guy caught up to me so were going next to each other for some 5-10 minutes and then I took off, it seemed like his car cut out at about 120 or so, not sure, but in lower range he had enough power. You have some work done on your car, don't you?

Default I thought they would have at least 220+hp like the 3.0 A4 . . .

I out-pulled a 2003 A4 3.0 about three weeks ago up a long uphill freeway grade (2 Freeway North bound between Glendale and La Canada, if you know the L.A. Freeway system).

I guess that I want to make the following point: We may have had only 172 hp out of the factory, but 220-230 crank hp is very achieveable.

I have never modded cars before my A4--I just lived with what I had. Now, I have learned how the internal combustion engine can make more hp without adding cylinders, forced induction, or cc's. I have enjoyed, struggled, but ultimately found great satisfaction in modding my 12v to make it at least as fast as the current crop of new sport sedans.

Default Some work . . .

See my picture poster, but to summarize:

1. Custom aluminum Ram-air extension to OEM inlet (may switch to A6 30v OEM inlet extension after future testing);
2. Restrictive OEM inlet lip ported smooth;
3. Restrictive OEM plastic air pipe support removed and replaced with non-restrictive metal one and additional pipe support added to increase pipe cross-section;
4. Airbox inlet--still need to do some work on that sucker;
5. K&N Air Filter;
6. UrS4 Velocity stack w/ screen removed;
7. UrS4 MAF Housing;
8. UrS4 Stage II silicone hose;
9. Stock plenum (for now--will likely upgrade to UrS4's new Stage III silicone hose with the crankcase vent piece);
10. Custom sleeve-ported, shaped, polished TB;
11. TDL ported intake manifold;
12. TDL ported street heads;
13. TDL unequal length headers;
14. Stock exhaust (for now--looking for high flow cats once my OEM ones die and likely just a Remus muffler, but the Milltek and Brullen exhausts look very good too).

However, I am still trying to financially recover from all of the recent preventative maintenance I did--about $1500 just in parts: gaskets, various pumps, fittings, hoses, belts, tensioners, fluids, bolts, etc. I did some of the labor, but my mechanic did most of it.

As I own my own business, I have to manage the staff, do administration, and perform the highly skilled labor. Thus, I put-in about 60 hrs/week to have the privilege of not having a boss, get ridiculously low profits, and not have as much free time to work on my car (my hobby) as I would like.

I guess everything is a trade-off. At least, I am happy. I see so many miserable people who make double my take-home pay, sold their soul and freedom of thought for their job security, and still get axed when the economy goes bad.
