I have a 97 a4 Quattro 5 speed with the 2.8 30v engine...it has a blown head gasket...it has 220k miles on it and I don't see the point in putting much money in it not knowing if it's just a gasket or a crack in the block or cracked head....it's blowing antifreeze and oil out the exhaust pretty bad and antifreeze in the oil...I recently totaled a 96 a4 Quattro 5speed with the 2.8 12v engine and I parted it out but saved the engine and ecm....my question is what are the differences...will the wire harness be the same or is it time to part this one out too...as far as I can tell it will bolt up directly to everything...i honestly see no difference in the two engines but could be overlooking something...Any help would be greatly appreciated....and I know this is a backwards swap but I have the engine on hand...and it has lower miles...also I know there is a difference in newer 30v engines(has the staggered looking intake manifold) the current 30v looks like the same block, head, and intake manifold...the only difference I see is in the valve cover and it's close....thanks in advance for any info I hope I explained it good enough!!

i would just pull another 30v from a junkyard, but that's me.
Im not certain on the ECU pinout of the 30v and 12v, so i would swap the harness with the 12v engine. is your 30v drive by wire or cable? also you may have some fun with the exhaust.
