but then i saw this funnel ram 4 with the different top? do they both have velocity stacks will the one on ebay still alow me to run without a MAF screen?

Default The Akimoto is a great cone filter and the on from ebay pictured should allow you to run withought

a MAF. I ran without a MAF with my Akimoto. Anyway I am not to up to date on cone filters but from what I know Akimoto is probably one of the best you can get for your car right now. They flow something like 800cfm and have the best looking VS attachment that ive seen besides one of 1pissedoff90's stacks.

Default Actually, in all honesty I believe even mine takes a back-seat to Akimoto's VS...

but I can't make their configuration fit in a stock airbox. I've never tested a cone that will out-flow it. But no cone within 6" of "any" fixed surface can "ever" flow as well as one sitting unobstructed on a flow-bench. I'd definately opt for the FR4 "cone-top" rather than the yellow open-top in pic.

Cones in and of themselves don't usually cause CEL's when running sans diffuser (screen). DIY MAF housings get the nod for biggest offender in that area.

Agreed ... I ran a standard S&B cone while waiting for my Akimoto without CEL

cool thanks for all the info. about to do the diy maf mod and i have to grind the opening on the maf to cone adapter larger since it blocks some airflow to the maf. so that and the maf mod should help flow out significantly if i did my research corectly.

Default According to emails I've exchanged with Akimoto, the FR4 outflows the FR3 by a SIGNIFICANT amount.

I am halfway around the world (NZ) right now and don't have the exact numbers with me.

Beware however: both are still oiled cotton gauze filters, with all the disadvantages of such. Search here for opinions on K&N filters and the lack of protection they offer your engine. I would never run one myself, especially on an MAF equipped engine. They just plain don't filter well enough, and the oil can foul MAF sensors.

Default in excess of 22.8% by my own in-house flow numbers. Additionally...

and even more importantly it also flows a DRAMATICALLY smoother, less turbulent column of air across the MAF sampling wires due to the upper/lower (concave/convex) mated/inverse velocity stack configuration. The "Big Mouth" filters and early Akimoto's as well and other "open-top" design cone filters simply can never flow as smoothly as a mated velocity stack/inverse velocity stack arrangement. And our MAF sensors are skittish enough as-is on their samplings and output voltages. Adding more "dirty air" (turbulence) is not helping our already erratic system. The base VS's are great at smoothing out air-flow pulled in laterally and increasing velocity but the open top air column thats pulled in thru the top center opening by-passes the smoothing affect of the base and sends turbulence, swirling/tumbling air straight across the MAF sensor wires causing exaggerated inconsistencies and erratic voltage ouptputs and compromises A/F linearity in a MAJOR way! Not the best you can do!

Are you saying no MAF at all? or just the screen?
