Not impossible, but I doubt it. The car ran OK before I took it apart. Something changed
fortunately I yanked an OEM POS from an A6 at a u-pull-it some time ago. I'll try switching them but I highly doubt its the problem.
I hand-cranked the motor after the belts were on to check timing synch...I think the cam position sensor may have been damaged then.

Just to keep people informed if they find this thread in search.
I solved my no spark problem after testing the POS was working (using the POS bench test write up)by replacing the cam shaft position sensor.
I then cleared all codes in ECU and car now runs brilliantly again :-)
