so I do not have a jack to get under my car, and the shop I use at work is closed for summer leave. I do have the stock "Jack of death" but I will NOT go under my car with that thing holding it up.
As I can not get under the car to have a look, I am wondering why this bolt in my allroad transmission mount seems so long?
I am under the impression that once I cut down the "top cap" section that the "pins" will still slide in the hole's in the "top cap" section.
if this is so...why is there like 11mm of bolt left over when the bolt is tightened all the way into the mount??

for reference the bolt is the same one as in this pic...
#2= M10 x 1.5mm x 35mm length, grade 8.8

so is this bolt too long, or am I just missing something by not being able to get under the car and see how it mounts up?
thanks all.

before it goes into the mount, so its gonna thread in the whole way now, even if you do have the right bolt.

is it supplied in the stock set up?
or is it something I need to get?
I thought the "top cap" piece (when cut down to a diameter of 40-50mm) was the only washer needed????

under the head of a bolt. This will help spread out the contact area load. This will also help keep the two surfaces parallel. The fastener will take & hold torque better & deform the part held less.
Have a look at the tiny area actually in contact between the underside of the head of the bolt & in this case, the big (softer) aluminum top cap you mentioned when there is no steel washer in between them.
Now install even a small dia. steel washer & see how the contact area is multiplied. See also how the bolt head can be better supported by a properly sized steel washer, reducing stress on the fillet between the shaft & the head of the bolt. Also, the underside of the bolt will not now gouge into the top cap.
Think of the steel washer as a snow-shoe for the bolt.

If you are using the allroad mount in an A4, then you need to get some shorter bolts. I have allroad mounts in my A4 and remember doing this. You use the washer you remove from the old mount bolt.
