CEL - Throttle position sensor/idle speed sensor - help
1996 A4 Q 12v auto.
I am not sure of the exact code that was pulled but this is the related sensor that was causing it. These are the same sensor correct? Is this something that can be cleaned like the MAF sensor? If so, where is it located, any one have a diagram or better a photo?
The problems with the car: Once engine warms up, cruising along with RPM between 2k-2.5k the car studders, and has stalled a couple times as well.
I brought it to the shop and they thought they fixed the problem with a leaking vacuum hose, but just picked up the car and the same problems are occurring. Does anyone have any other ideas what I should be looking at with this?

Its not cleanable but it is adjustable..
You have to remove the throttle body to check the switch. You should be able to pickup a used TB pretty cheap. (IIRC the auto is different from the manual)

Actually it is cleanable as there are 6 male spade connectors in the sensor...
and 6 female spade terminals in the harness plug. Some contact cleaner and conductive enhancer treatment is a good idea. But I've only seen one throw a code that cleaning took care of. Most TPS CEL's represent a need for TPS sensor mechanical adjustment that synchronizes it with butterfly plate as it transitions off-idle or a replacement sensor. Both of those require throttle body R&R.
Auto TB works fine and is a straight swap on a manual car but a manual TB on an auto-equipped car is a no-go.

Re: I may have similar problem in my autotrans car...
it feels while driving like autotrans and throttle are not communicating correctly. the converter lockup is inconcistent,(by lack of better word in my not native english). Acceleration and torque are lame on citydriving. mechanically the tranny seems to be wroking ok.
(MAF may be the culprit too, as the external temperature affects this phenomenon also?)
What does R&R mean here? Remove &replace, or Rebuild or what.
So if the sensor is bad is the whole TB to be replaced? sounds expensive...
Mine shows no codes, but it is -95 and I´m told that the code system is not so good...
