I need to replace coil on cylinder number 6. unfortunately those threads just tell me what cylinder is up on a timing belt replacement(#3). one thread says they "think" that the cylinder arrangement is such but i need to know for sure what cylinder is number 6 before i replace the coil. code p0306 came up and says i have a misfire on cylinder 6. i want to replace the coil on cylinder # 6 but do not know which cylinder is # 6 so hence the post to see if anyone at audiworld might be able able to help me out by just stating that cylinder # 6 is located there.

A misfire only on #6 is probably not the coil, as #1 plug is fired by the same coil (note the picture), and you didn't say cylinder #1 had a misfire. Something specific to #6, like a fouled plug, clogged injector, low compression, would be more likely.

Default 03 audi a6 quattro engine 3.0

Yes. actually my engine does not look exactly like the pic. my 03 audi a6 quattro has a 3.0 engine that has individual coil packs sitting on top of each spark plug. hence i have 6 coil packs total on the engine. ended up buying the part at rochester hills audi in michigan for $22.50 plus tax. had the code read at pep boys in sterling heights, mi for free. the local foreign car parts place wanted $47.50 for an after market part. don't know how rochester hills audi does it for less but was happy to fix my audi for for $22.50 plus tax and the time it took to replace. thanks for your help.

Although you have got your answer i think you where in the wrong forum.

This is the 12 valve V6 engine forum and you have a 30 valve V6 engine with coil per cylinder as the engine picture below.

Still Glad you mended your motor :-)
