Don't I need to hone the cylinder?

Hi.
I'm on the way putting in new piston rings, but I have something that worries me.
A guy from the machine shop I went for head job told me that I should not hone the cylinder unless I rebore it, saying it'll have worse compression.
And he also sugests me reboring since he thinks there is a bit of ridge.
Pistons came out without any problem. and I felt carbon deposit, but not such noticable ridge. But they are professional, but I'm not.
I don't have time nor tool to measure the cylinder wall dimension, and I just thought of putting in new piston rings.
Before disassembling, compression was fine, about 160 ~ 180 psi.
I don't think I can afford to get oversized piston and piston ring, if there are such that'll fit mine.
Should I hone the cylinder wall before installing the new piston rings or not?
Anyone had performed 0.25mm oversized rings on standard pistons?
Thank you.

basically, there are a lot of opinions out theer on what to do.
I'd suggest honing the cyl. Basically, it helps the rings seat better. As long as the bores are w/in spec, you shouldn't have an issue by a slight honing.
here's the <a href="http://www.motorgeek.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8641&sid=1740fcda60b842485a3f1dbff e4f430f">link</a> to Motorgeek where I asked a similar question for the rebuilding of my MC turbo motor for my 4000
Also, the guy at the machine shop shoudl be able to measure the bores for you... and a bentley manual will be able to give you the spec/tolerance that the OEM rings are capable of. As long as it's w/in spec, you don't need to worry about boring anything.
