Default Easiest way to remove egr valve?

I am having one hell of a time removing this thing. I can sort of get a crow's foot onto the nut but I can't seem to turn it. What else can easily be removed to gain access?

Also, I managed to break the black plastic part that is on the intake manifold vacuum unit that presses onto a ball...is there a cheap way to fix this or do I have to buy the whole unit?

Thanks!

Default I use a 10mm swivel socket and a 12" extension.

assuming you are talking about removing the bolts from the intake manifold.

Default Theres a plate behind it you can loosen (heat shield I think) once you loosen it (13mm) you..

...get better access to the 22mm nut on the bottom of the valve with the crowfoot. Also leave the 10mm bolts holding the EGR to the manifold otherwise the whole thing will twist. When you reinstall make sure its really tight and locked onto the pipe coming from the exhaust.

Default Are you sure the EGR valve is broken?

That's an expensive part.

I am taking it out to clean it and the passageway as I have the insufficient flow CEL being thrown.

Default claw foot worked fine for me several times are you sure...

you are turning the right way. common mistake, but pretend you are underneath unscrewing. you need to have the rachet on tighten. i've done mine several times and it was never a problem. not sure the metric size, but a 7/8 claw works fine.

also, you will probably need to take the throttle body off to dig the hole that comes up inside the intake. oh and when you do that, don't drop the nail or whatever you use to clean out the hole inside the intake and start up the engine.(experience talking)

Default Yeah, I was sure I was turning the right way

Just a bitch to get enough room and cleaning out the passageway was aweful!

Putting the thing back together now, though...since I broke a piece and had to buy another one.

Thanks, though.
