I used double-stick Scotch tape on a second piece of glass just slightly larger than..

the gasket. I could apply even pressure with my hand and slowly worked it down. I didn't apply a micrometer to it but it definitely lapped it. The gasket peels right up, no damage. Repeat other side. They learned me good in school....; - )

WAIT!!! Ya mean ya didn't lap the Scotch Tape before affixing the gasket to it? Uh-oh... ;-)
