instead of the 72199??? the 99 is the larger one the 98 is about half as tall???

but I've had both Bosch filters on my car. It seems the longer one is the older version. In either case, you should be fine.

By the way, does it say on your oil filter (not on the box) where it was made?

I ordered one for my DIY oil change. It does look smaller than the OEM filter.

Strangely enough it has "Made in USA" stamped on the filter itself, with no mention on the box. I'm gonna give it a try. Can anyone give me a review on this filter?

there is no difference between the 2 filters except the height, ive done many oil changes on vw's and audi's using those 2 filters. some require the shorter filter only because if u use the longer one it sticks out further than the oil pan (dangerous) but u can use the shorter one instead of the longer one if desired. it will cause no harm. just use less oil. which is good =]
