Help with oil system problem....

there are two gaskets to leak air, and excess volume in the pickup. Getaudimyway should pull a valve cover to see if he is pumping oil. If he damaged either pan gasket The pump won't prime.

I added an extra 3 quarts, all I had at the time, and started it up again.
10 seconds and the oil light went off, about a minute and the clacking went away. My lifters are noiser than they were before, but if they need 20 minutes or so to properly prime it should go back to the 'normal' ticking.
Thanks for the great advice here, I'm off to drain out the extra oil and see how it goes with a little driving.

in the old days they packed it with vaseline. Nowadays I would use assembly lube.
If you forget, crank the engine without plugs in it (disable ignition and fuel) to build up oil pressure.
