so i just went to u pull it and got myself a nice used maf now to turn this to a maf adapter i would do what exactly? i've read the threads but just wanna be safe and see if any one will post some nice easy directions. also any suggestions for diy heat shields?

um, that looks like a small bore MAF. I do not think you can cut that one for a adapter.

Default You can use a small bore MAF sensor to make a cone filter adapter

Then use a dremel to smooth down the "red" section on the right side of the pic. I don't remember what the O.D. of that MAF is but measure it and buy the appropriate size cone filter.
