Default MAF topic again...(I got the small MAF housing)

so here I thought I could just dremil out my MAF housing, well turns out I have the puny MAF housing, with the actual MAF that does not have it's own top, just the electrodes at the end.

Now my question if I make my own housing for the MAF, can I just use the MAF that I have ?

If yes, cool...
If NO, WHY ?

I have done a lot of STFA and found that this MAF (078133471A) should be used

Also what models have the 3" maf housings ? or is that an after-market mod ?

thanks

Default you will have to rewire the MAF sensor itself to convert it

from a 3 wire to 4 wire? Can't remember the wirign... Search for user name "nothing" he did a writeup on how to do the conversion.

Default then you should just be able to swap the MAF into the larger housing...

unless I got the wiring backwards, which isn't totally impossible.

If you get the MAF you're talking about from a junkyard, generally it comes with the sensor and the housing... so if you already have the 4 wire plug, then you should be able to just plug and play.... should be the operative word.

hope this helps ya, and didn't add anymore confusion My mind isn't all there this week... too much studying :-X

Default the local junkyard only has a partial A4 from 98, if they don't have the right MAF incl housing

I am going to try to make a 3" maf housing my self, do you think that
I can reuse my MAF since it does not have the top ?

Something like this (this is a PS'd image)
