Default Mr.D....

As I've mentioned a few days ago, one of the front brake piston dust boots had a small crack in it. Because I didn't like the looks of my front brake lines, I have decided to go back in and change the dust boots and maybe the O-rings in the both front calipers. You said you had a caliper on your workbench. Could you please take a look if the piston dust boot can be removed without removing the piston itself?

Do you think I could take my calipers to a brake shop and pay them to remove the pistons for me?

Default you could probably go to any shop and they'll shoot the piston out for ya...

I personally would recommend what MikTip had told Mr. D, which was to put a piece of wood between the piston and the caliper and have a trusted other push on the pedal till the piston shoots out. Just make sure to keep your fingers... OR go to any garage with an air compressor and have them do the same thing. Just always make sure to keep the piece of wood between the piston and caliper so that the piston does not get marred.

As for the seals and dust boot, I can't give you an accurate answer since I've never dealt with it

Default You're going to have to remove the piston to replace the boot...

There's an inner seal that comes with the boot that you should replace, too, while you are doing it.

I'm sure any shop will shoot the piston out for you. You just need an air compressor and a needle attachement. If you find a good shop, they may even do it for free. Let me know how it goes!

Default But the trusted other doesn't trust me! ;-)

It still sounds like a scary method -- with the brake fluid shooting out at high pressure.

Default can ya blame them :-P

I'd think though that as long as you odn't have the car on... just make sure there's no more assist in the brake system.

But then again, you might be right Just put it in a ziplock so you don't get sprayed with brake fluid
