you can get away with far less than the hundreds of hours Mance and some of us others have/will put into making it a work of art.
I will likely end up doing two, one extreme port to test the limits of porting and improve my metal working skill, and one more conservative to have something to fall back on should I f-up.
Basically, porting the TB makes a lot more sense to me than all the complexity of the IM. The air goes in so many directions and bounces off of so many surfaces in the IM. Thus, the comprehension of the calculus of the airflow appears infinitely more complex. I have spent a lot of time on the initial intake inlets and I have still not finished them to my satisfaction.
Additionally, I have found that some parts of the IM have a far greater hardness than others, I may have already ground too aggressively on some surfaces in the exit ports due to a lack of patience with the harder "seams" of the IM which sit directly next to the softer metals.
All-in-all, I found that the IM proves itself over and over to be a tedious part to port correctly.
But, like I said, you can fix the most glaring restrictions and greatly improve performance. I bought a ported IM from TDL when it remained in existance; thus, I have enjoyed substantial performance improvement from a rough port. However, there exists a lot more that one can get from the IM; it just takes endless hours of tedious work.

The knowledge I've gained alone, mods or not has been priceless, thanks to so many people here. It's just hard to hear that what you thought was Gold is really just brass. I just need to use more Polish.
As long as there is work to be done I'll be more than happy to get my hands dirty. And there is always work to be done. Plus, a frosty cold beverage just tastes better when your hands are covered in grease.

improvements such as being able to hang with your Mom's BMW or how you do at the track than superficial horsepower numbers.
P.S. Your Mom likes to drag with you? :-)

To reiterate what JWG said it will and is a VERY Tedious task at hand. The TB porting to me at first made the most sense. but now seeing the degree of sand forging on these IM's I reallize the importance and possible gains that are there. As of now I plan on taking my time and really makeing something perfect...but you can get away with less. My advice after just starting is this, spend the extra money on materials ( flap wheels etc.) and let THEM do the work....Then again my second major in college was art (ceramics and metal sculpture) So I live for this crap.
