Need to change my tranny oil. I have a 97 2.8Q.
I live in Toronto Canada. The winters are relatively cold, while the summer does get to be very warm. So I need oil that will work best in -30 to +40 range. Would you sugest MTL or MT90?
Found a redline oil dealer here in TO Canada who is selling it for 17CAD per bottle. Not the best deal, but still easier and probably cheaper then shipping from US. I am not sure though how many bottles I need. Also, I can get a mechanic to do it, but if its farely simple, I can try myself. Could someone please sugest the tools that I may need?
Thanks.

tranny fluid. You'll need a special socket, though, to get the drain plug out. Its called a 3357 triple square socket. You can get it from Zelenda. You'll also need a 17mm hex socket to remove the fill plug and a fluid transfer pump ($10) to fill it. Do the rear diff while your at it but don't use the MT90 back there. It takes a GL5 75w90 Gear Oil. Good Luck!

Oh, and make sure you remove the fill plug first. It would suck if you drained all the fluid out and couldn't get the fill plug out to refill it. =/

I prefer it to the MT90 which gets a little notchy for me during winter use when I first start out on cold mornings in all 3 of my cars. And if you feel safer you can mix-n-match the MTL with the MT90 to suit as they are perfectly compatible with each other. Been using MTL for at/over 10 years and no transmission problems to date in nothing but Audi's.
Like MrD says tho do the FD at the same time. Ya really can't "feel" any benefit to the rear end like ya can in the tranny but you know it's there and doing it's job.
