Mystery Plug after doing Timing Belt Package?

I can't tell you anything about the plug there, but I will soon be doing the same type of maintenance on my 1996 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8L 12v V6 (AFC). Do you have any advice tips and tricks to offer? May be a good set of instructions to refresh my memory?

Umm the only tips I can tell you is to unplug all the wiring on the driver's side so you can slide the front all the way out of your way like in my picture. Don't forget whether or not you unplugged something, and then get confused later haha. Also I think the camshaft locking tool is a waste of money (I didn't even take it out of the bag). Of course that depends on how comfortable you are with doing a timing belt job (I have done several before this one). As far as instructions I used a Haynes manual a couple of times. And I didn't really need it, but I have the Bentley manual on my laptop and it has everything the other doesn't. Oh and if your cam seals or crank seal is leaking replace them, because you probably won't later. Hope that helps man.

Hey thanks alot :andrew. I think I probably will need that locking tool because this is the first time I will be doing a timing belt job. Do you have a VAG part number for that tool?

No, but you can get it with the timing belt kit off of ecstuning.com. That is where I got mine.

Thanks again ;andrew. I know Blauparts has the timing belt tool kit for a rental fee of $35.00 with a $325.00 deposit only if you buy the $150.00 timing belt/water pump kit. I will probably order the camshaft and crankshaft holding tools (VAG3243 and 3242 respectively) on ebay and buy a $20 gear puller at a local hardware store. I heard PVC pipe works well for installing the seal.

I don't think my car has that option, but I'm not sure. I have never heard of that before, but I'll check into it.

That's not it. I have the cold weather package with the heated squirters. The nozzles heat up fine, but the mystery plug is not connected to anything. Everything works, so the mystery connector is just plain useless.
