Default No vacuum to EGR valve

Hello guys, I just bought a 92 Quattro 100CS for $750 !!! its perfect other than a couple of annoyances but the body is great and the engine runs strong. I have a question though. I took it to get smogged here in CA and it passed the emissions part but it failed the functional part because the EGR valve was getting no vacuum. The technician tested the EGR valve and it worked just fine. I need to know what might be the possible problems behind the no vacuum thing. I have done some searches and found that I might need to take off the throttle body to get to some clogged passage ways that lead to the EGR. Please let me know if this is likely to stop vacuum to the EGR.

Thanks,
Mick

Default I would first try to replace the vacuum hose to make sure the system has no leaks . . .

If the system has no leaks and if the solenoid works, vacuum flow activated by the solenoid should pull the EGR valve open and closed without difficulty.

EGR Solenoid could have gone bad?

Clogged EGR tube will only prevent exhaust gases from recirculating from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold, it will not prevent the valve from opening and closing properly. It's not even connected to the vacuum system.

Yeah, I couldnt figure out how that would help but I thought Id ask anyway. I replaced the vac hose so We'll see what happens. EGR vacuum regulator solenoid valve must be what it is. Thats probably a $100 dealer item right?

Thanks,
Mick
