Oil Leak

My 1995 90Q Sport AFC 220,000 mi.engine developed a massive continuous stream oil leak just after starting on a 8 degree F morning. Lost approximately 3 quarts of oil in less than 20 minutes. Oil is coming from front of engine across top of upper oil pan below crank pulley. After adding oil, had oil pressure but lifter still ticking. Crank oil seal was replaced 18 months ago (15000 miles) during timing belt replacement. There's a lot of oil on toothed serpintine belt and associated pulleys. Removed timinig belt cover and there's no oil on timing belt or cam sproket. Purchased upper and lower pan gaskets. I have removed the lower oil pan and gasket. Next step is removing upper oil pan. Not looking forward to removing upper pan if it's not the problem. I have the following questions:
Anyone seen a leak of this magnitude from the upper gasket?
Does dipstick tube just pulled up and out?
What other parts are involved in the removal of the upper oil pan? Bentley manual Sect. 17 says I may have to remove drive shaft bolts and starter. Upper pan appears to be part of bell housing. Unbolt lower trans. bolts?
Will oil pump have to be primed when leak is stopped to get adequate oil pressure to lifters?
Had intermittent egr fault code for some time before leak. Checked valve cover vent pipes and are clear. What other components need checking for crankcase ventillation. Is egr involved in venting? Any threads to EGR repair/cleaning?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

& not confident. I'll do it myself next time. Here is an article on how to clean it out yourself.<ul><li><a href="http://www.mnsi.net/~natwhite/audi/egr.html">http://www.mnsi.net/~natwhite/audi/egr.html</a</li></ul>

There is an oil pressure sensor that mounts in the oil pan on the driver side of the car. It is a 6 dollar part at local auto parts store. I was able to remove mine when I did a timing belt change. I tis located brhind the A/C compressor. It faces the fromt of that car. I had to use a 24mm socket to get it out. I would try this before replacing the Oil Pan. You will have to remove Front timing covers and any associated accesories as if you were doing a Timing Belt install to get to it. This sensor is a common point of failure. Fortunatly I was due for Belt change anyway.
