My buddy put them in his 91 maxima, his beam pattern did not change... his bulbs are direct replacement and have the same exact filiment / arc location as the original bulbs

Default Odd...

I thought the arc in the xenon lamps was bigger than the tungsten coil in a halogen lamp? That would mean that the xenon lamp will not be in the optimal focal point of the reflector.

Default If you use the original headlight, then...

make sure the kit has bulb that is converted from D2R bulb.

If you have the projector-type headlight (newer audi headlight) then you have to use the bulb that is converted from D2S.

D2S is a clear bulb without any light restictor. D2R has restrictor around them (black stuff).

D2S is used for projector light, and D2R is used for regular headlight.

Default Question

It's come up before, but nobody ever seems to really know about this.

I have the old reflector ecodes, and those don't have a sleeves around the bulbs like the crappy old DOT reflector lamps. Would a D2R xenon bulb change the beam pattern or not?

Default What? The reflector e-codes do not have the sleeves around them?

That's pretty interesting. Do you have any url's? I would like to see those.

Default Actually, yes, they do... (EDIT)

2-piece 3-in-1 (low/high/fog) Bosch reflector ecodes:

I remembered incorrectly. They do have those bulb sleeves...

-glass lens/diffuser
-excellent beam pattern

I bought them on a trip in Germany. I can take pictures and post them.

Default It is but the beam pattern change is minimal/ not noticable by the human eye

the difference would be in the intensity of the immediate lighting area. The pattern would "bulge" slightly in each irection but nothing worth recording..
