Default Most obvious difference is that the XTB is quieter

Think that I need to clear up the head and/or exhaust restrictions before any more noticible performance from intake mods will be apparent.

The sleeve on the S3 TB acts a bit like a noisemaker. A nice noise, (someone described it as a bit like a supercharger) but one my ears don't need.

Default most have told me the opposite to be true. Noise should be flow-related and higher flow should be...

louder. My RS3 and RXTB's have both been louder than non-R versions of the same TB in my car.

Default I agree with you that increased flow should match increased noise...

My point, and it is purely subjective, is that changing from the S3 TB to the XTB did not change flow. That, in my opinion, is already limted by stock IM, head, EM etc. So, I am saying that the same flow is going through a smoother passage and is able to do so more quietly.

Understand, I am only using a butt o meter to measure the effecitvness of the various combination of modifications I tried. But, the most dramatic changes came early with a S3 TB and a modififed skinny MAF. The later changes (finally - a Stage 3 MAF, stage 3 hose kit and XTB), greately increased the opportunity for increased flow, but very little perceptable increased performance came with them. I have concluded that there must be another restriction in my system.

Of course, you are way ahead of me there. You have ported and polished your IM, and your heads, including larger valves and are on the hunt for a more free flowing exhaust. These will each, and together remove impediments to flow when you install them. You alredy have a freer flowing exhaust system.

Anyway, this is why I have the opinion I stated. HTH

it's still available. TB's in this price range don't "fly out the door"
