Default Rear Calpier Carrier bolt

Well, on my94 Audi 90s, my daughter noticed a grinding from the rear brakes. I thought that was strange since I had inspected the pads less than three months ago and they looked almost new.

Well I popped the rear wheel, and yes, the outside pads was like new....the inside pad was down to metal. Seems the bottom guide pin was frozen, wearing down only the inner shoe.

So, off with the caliper and carrier, I think.

But wait, the carrier mounting bolts look like those wonderful hex socket bolts. But 7mm is too loose and 8 too big. What gives? Are they 12 point bolts? What are they? Bentley does not say.

Anyone there know what these are? If they are 7 mm allen head bolts, they are too rusted to hold any torque. This will be fun to get out. Any wizards who know how to extract these things?

Default they are an allen key for sure...

on my A4 and brother's old CQ. might be rusted out/stripped from previous repair. My mechanic told me for my stripped out rear diff fill plug to hammer in a torx bit that is slightly bigger than the space/hole for the hex and pull it that way. you could also get a set of screw extractors i'd think. obv you'd then need to replace the carrier bolt when removed.

Default Re: Rear Calpier Carrier bolt

Yes, once I REALLY got in there they were 8 mm hex. I needed to tap the socket into the bolt because of surface rust, but they were fine.

Take my workd froit! service those caliper pins regularly.
