Default Recommended Parts Motor 90 2.8L

My 95 90Q currently has an AFC engine with a Hitachi MMS-313 ECU chipped by JET Perf, Stebro stainless, K&N cone kit, Blau TB mod. Since it is my daily driver I cannot take it off the road so I was looking for a parts motor to work the heads, IM, EM, TB and came a cross an AAH for a good price. I was hoping for some expert guidance in making the right choice, AFC or AAH parts engine. Researched past threads and as a newbie still was not sure which way to go. When I have a spare motor in hand I look forward to following UrS4's workshops.

I have read threads stating the AAH heads return better gains, however the EM is not so great and vice versa for the AFC. Can I still use the AFC EM? Will I need to replace the ECU or have it re-chipped? Do I need to worry about any other parts due to the compression ratio increase?

Does anyone have a supplier contact info with part #'s for upgraded valvetrain components?

Sorry for all of the questions, nobody in my area seems to know jack sh*t about the 12v 2.8. All I get are shrugged shoulders when I ask about performance mods or told to buy a 1.8T(No way!). Thank you in advance for your suggestions/guidance.

Default The ECU for AFC engines ranges from your MMS-311 to MMS-411. You could easily use the ECU for...

MMS-400 (which was used introduced in '96) since it doesn't have the Secondary Air Pump system, which started with the MMS-410 system. The MMS 300/311 was introduced in the 1993 model year in Audi 90 and Audi 100 models. If the AAH engine was manufactured from 8/94, it is the same layout as the AFC engine. As far as I can discern from the Bentley Repair Manual, the difference prior to 8/94 for AAH engines vs. the AFC engines was a change in the valve seal design.

Default You have a Jet chipped ECU

Did this make a noticeable difference, plus how much did it cost.

I definitely noticed a difference, however I installed it at the same time as the bored TB. Regardless, much stronger pull from 2800 through 5000. Though I'd really love to squeeze more low end say beginning around 1750 (looking for help on that one). Bonus - 24mpg avg w/mods @ 173,250mi.

Cost me about $329 + s&h, I believe the part# was 65002. I received a kit with instructions, a mod sheet(supposedly to maximize the mods I had already made), pre-addressed shipping box. They shipped it back the same day they received it. Out Mon. in my hands Wed no hassles.

Default For more low end torque

Camshafts, 272 degree duration, you can find them on the websit Miktip suggested to you. If you do the camshafts, then you might as well rebuild the heads and port and polish the heads and intake manifold. That should give you substantial gains below the 3000 mark.

Intake workshop

I was lead to believe the 272 cam only benefited high end, please set me straight as gun drilled aftermarket cams are on my list of to do's. Thanks.

Default Check this site out

Get your V6 12V over the 200HP* mark! Install a set of cams and our BLAUsport Throttle Body! The cams alone will get you close or over the 200 mark, depending on the cams you use. Add the throttle body and you will be a the 200 mark or well over! Not to mention a excellent torque gain bellow 3,500 rpm which the V6 12V desperately needs!

Blau

I'm familiar with BLAUParts, my TB was bored by them. The quote from their web site was referring to a combo they were selling a while ago for the 12v V6, 264* cam and Bored TB. They no longer offer the 264* cams. Spoke with Keith at Blau because I was interested in both, however the cams were a no can do. The 272* they sell is for the I5 motor.

MikTip mentioned a site (EuroSpecSport) that I checked out, looks like they have a variety of durations from 260* to 280*, only question is what duration will give the most low end without sacrificing too much at the top for the 12v?
